Summer fishing conditions are in full swing across the Gulf Coast, delivering highly productive reef action and back-bay bites. Stable weather patterns and warm water temperatures have concentrated baitfish around both nearshore structures and shallow grass flats. For anglers heading out with It’s A Good Day Charters, this means tight lines and heavy coolers whether you are looking for a fast-paced half-day trip or a deep-water offshore pattern.

Down in the deeper waters, our offshore fishing packages are yielding exceptional results. The federal [red snapper] season is producing heavy, hard-fighting fish on live bait and vertical jigs over public and private wrecks. Along with limit catches of snapper, we are picking up [grouper] and amberjack on bottom drops. A few miles further out, tropical blue-water species are showing up on the surface, making it the perfect time to target fast-moving king mackerel and mahi-mahi on light-tackle troll setups.

Inside the shelter of Pensacola Bay, the inshore system is alive with activity early in the morning and just before sunset. Schools of aggressive redfish are patrolling the shallow flats and deep pass channels, hitting live shrimp and soft plastics on the incoming tide. Anglers are also finding steady success with slot-sized speckled trout, flounder, and sheepshead around bridge pilings and rock structures. The calm, protected waters of the bay make our [family-friendly fishing experience] an absolute favorite for parents looking to introduce their kids to the sport without worrying about open-ocean swells.

As we move deeper into the summer months, prime dates during the highly regulated reef seasons fill up incredibly fast. If you are planning a vacation to the Gulf Coast and want to turn these weekly updates into real-time catches, don't wait until you arrive in town. Check our live calendar, review our seasonal packages, and [book a trip with It’s A Good Day Charters] today to secure your day on the water.

From deck shots to clean releases — snapper, triggerfish, and AJ

Fishing in Pensacola is heating up as we roll into June, with a great mix of inshore and offshore action across the board. Water temps are climbing into the mid-80s, and the bite is staying consistent with calm mornings and light winds offering prime conditions.

Inshore, redfish are showing up around the grass flats and dock lines early in the morning, especially on higher tides. Live shrimp, cut mullet, and soft plastics have all been producing. Speckled trout are feeding aggressively at first light, with topwater lures drawing explosive strikes near the mouths of creeks and around deeper grass beds. Don’t be surprised to hook into a few flounder mixed in—some keepers have been caught around sandy drop-offs.

Offshore, the bite has been strong with red snapper season now open. Most trips are limiting out quickly on reefs and ledges in 60–120 feet of water. Live cigar minnows and frozen squid have been the top baits. King mackerel and mahi are also making appearances around the deeper wrecks, and a few cobia have been caught cruising just offshore. It’s a great time to target a variety of species in one trip.

Whether you're looking to stay close to shore or head out deeper, now’s a solid time to fish Pensacola. The summer bite is just getting started, and conditions are ideal.

Hot Bites and Calm Seas: June Fishing in Pensacola

Greater Amberjack

It was a perfect day to be out on the water with Stephanie and the crew, running our 4 Hour Trip – Inshore/Nearshore with It's A Good Day Charters. January is a prime time for inshore and nearshore fishing here, with the water temperatures just right for the fish to be feeding aggressively. As we pulled out of the harbor at 7:00 am, the weather was looking great—calm seas, clear skies, and just the right amount of breeze to make the ride comfortable.

We wasted no time getting the lines in the water and started working some of our favorite nearshore structures. It didn't take long before the action heated up, and Stephanie's rod bent over with a nice Greater amberjack on the other end. That fish put up one heck of a fight, but she kept her cool and landed it beautifully. The rest of the crew got in on the action too, hooking into a few more Greater amberjacks throughout the morning. The fish were hitting our live bait offerings hard, keeping us on our toes and the adrenaline pumping.

Between the solid fishing, the great company, and the picture-perfect weather, this trip really had it all. We navigated the inshore waters with ease, found the fish, and got everyone in on the action. That's what makes these trips so special—not just the number of fish caught, but the overall experience of being out on the water, enjoying the day, and creating lasting memories with friends, new and old.

If you're looking to experience some world-class inshore and nearshore fishing, I can't recommend the 4 Hour Trip – Inshore/Nearshore with It's A Good Day Charters enough. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting into the sport, our expert crew will make sure you have an unforgettable time on the water, chasing hard-fighting fish and taking in the beautiful coastal scenery. Captain William Risher, the foundation of It’s A Good Day Charters, brings decades of hands-on experience navigating the productive inshore flats, nearshore reefs, and deeper offshore waters of the Gulf Coast. Raised right here along these shores, I developed a lifelong respect for our local marine ecosystem and a genuine love for being out on the open water. Over the years, that passion evolved into true regional expertise, making me one of the most reliable Pensacola fishing guides working today. My understanding of these local patterns runs deep—from knowing exactly where redfish school in the bays to tracking seasonal shifts for prize species like mahi-mahi and snapper. My approach on the water is centered entirely on a calm, confident presence that ensures every guest feels welcome, whether they have fished for decades or are holding a rod for the first time. I am known across the docks for an approachable style, a dedicated focus on safety, and a commitment to tailoring every charter to match the group's exact comfort level. Families frequently comment on my patience when teaching children the basics, while seasoned anglers respect the deep tactical insights and technical adjustments we make throughout the day. The primary goal on every outing is simple: to ensure everyone goes home with great memories, a few new skills, and a deeper appreciation for the sport. On any given day, I use a dynamic mix of light tackle, bottom fishing, trolling, or jigging—completely dependent on real-time water conditions and current migration patterns. Whether we are targeting snapper and grouper over structured bottom reefs or tracking fast-moving king mackerel further out, I keep the vessel stocked with premium gear and the exact setup required for the job. This ability to read subtle environmental changes ensures that every trip is both highly educational and rewarding. I focus on showing guests the true character of our local ecosystem, helping them understand the water so they leave the dock as more confident anglers.
The Boat: Built for Comfort and Reliability
Our charters operate aboard a premium 26-foot Grady White center console—a exceptionally solid, stable vessel perfectly suited for navigating the diverse environments around Pensacola Beach. Powered by dependable twin 150HP Yamaha engines, the boat delivers smooth handling and efficient speeds whether we are skimming across calm inshore shallows or heading to deeper reefs. Meticulously maintained to meet rigorous safety and performance standards, this spacious layout comfortably accommodates up to six guests with plenty of open deck space for active casting. Outfitted with high-quality electronics, top-tier tackle, and essential safety gear, this versatile platform provides a comfortable, smooth platform for every style of fishing we offer.
